Finding The Perfect Engagement Ring
The decision to purchase an engagement ring is one that is both exciting and perhaps a bit overwhelming. With so many design options to choose from, deciding on the perfect engagement ring may feel a little challenging at the beginning. But, our knowledgeable and experienced team is here to help!
Below are a few tips to help you with the process:
1. Determine Your Budget
It’s helpful to know your engagement ring budget—or at least a range—that you would
like to spend before you start shopping. We can work with you to focus your selection
on diamonds (or another type of stone) and settings within your range.
2. Look at Loose Diamonds or Other Stones
Although you can always purchase a diamond engagement ring already mounted, we enjoy showing customers loose diamonds to allow them to select the diamond and setting separately. By seeing loose diamonds outside the mounting, you can examine the diamond more easily—making certain that any inclusions or flaws aren’t hidden by the mounting—and truly see for what you are purchasing.
3. Consider Metal Types
Engagement rings typically come in four different metal types: white gold, yellow gold, rose gold and platinum. 14k gold has good durability, is a relatively strong and hard material and costs less than 18k gold. Because of the different gold content, the colors of 14k gold and 18k gold are slightly different. Since 18k gold contains a higher
proportion or pure gold, the color shows as a deeper yellow than 14k gold.
4. Size
Don’t worry if you don’t know your partner’s ring size (or your own ring size!). There are
a few ways you can figure their size out without asking:
1. Sneak a ring from your partner’s collection (perhaps one they don’t wear very often)
and bring it into our showroom for sizing
2. Ask family or friends if they know your partner’s ring size, or if they can help you
discover it
3. We can also provide you with a complimentary ring sizer
If the size isn’t perfect, we offer one complimentary re-sizing (that can usually be done in one day).
